New Zealand Tableau
New Zealand Railways 2-6-2T W192 heads out of the Ferrymead Historical Village on its way to the other end of the line, just a couple of kilometers away. Lots of atmosphere in this shot, including the level crossing guard shack, the signal box (switch tower) and the lower-quadrant rod-operated semaphores. Not-so-typical is the catenary wire for the occasional trolley car.
Trailing behind the W192 is a period postal van. Note also that the locomotive has a pilot on the rear, appropriate since the locomotive is designed for bi-directional operation.
