Ready for Bed
A stiff 45-minute climb up Smelter Mountain, across from downtown Durango ultimately yields this overhead telephoto view of the Durango and Silverton roundhouse. K36 481, fresh off one of the daily trains to Silverton, has received the necessary TLC, fresh supplies of coal and sand, and is now on the turntable for a quick spin prior to being tucked away in its roundhouse stall for an evening's slumber.
Also visible in this shot is a newly acquired diesel from the Georgetown Loop Railroad and a derelict K37 at far right.
