Steam and Snow
Back when Steamtown was still based in Bellows Falls, VT and long before anyone dreamed of a National Park, a pair of light CPR Pacifics are bringing an excursion back southeast from Rutland just a few days after New Year's day 1975. The cylinder cocks are open framing the dark bulk of the locomotive in white steam. Today both locomotives are out of service. The 1278 (in the lead) was sold to the Gettysburg Railroad and suffered a near-catastrophic boiler explosion in 1995. Today it resides in the Age of Steam roundhouse in Ohio awaiting repair. Similarly, the 1246 is stored serviceable at the Naugatuck RR in Connecticut and awaits rebuilding.
