The Budd RDC (Rail Diesel Car) was a self-propelled workhorse for low-density passenger and commuter routes. Two Caterpillar diesels were slung under the floor, cooled by the radiators on top of the car. Here a fine example scoots north along the Hudson River, crossing a causeway over an inlet just north of Peekskill, NY heading for Poughkeepsie. HIgh-visibility zebra stripes on the ends of the car are an attempt to make it more visible to wayward motorists at grade crossings.
