My career with the RoadRailer technology goes back to the very start in 1980. On last Friday the last North American user, Norfolk Southern, announced that they will be restructuring their RoadRailer subsidiary Triple Crown and dramatically pulling back on RoadRailer use, converting the bulk (and I expect, eventually all) of the operation to conventional containers. Here is a shot from better days, August 2000. We have paused on a high-speed transcontinental run of a solid train of "ReeferRailers" (refrigerated RoadRailer trailers) en route to Los Angeles. Well over 10,000 RoadRailer trailers were built over the years, and I sold just about every one.
