All northbound Durango & Silverton trains pause at Tank Creek to refill the tender with water. The fireman tends to business while the engineer has taken advantage of the stop to hop off and make a quick inspection of the running gear of K28 473. The water tank at top right, obviously a converted tank car, is fed by gravity from Tank Creek, which tumbles down the hillside and passes under the track just below the car where I am standing. The flow is fast enough that the tank will be completely refilled by the time the next train comes along in 45 minutes.
