Not What it Seems
This Long Island Rail Road train appears to be pulled by an Alco FA, but in reality it is just a power and cab car for the train, which is being pushed by an Alco C420, the top of its yellow nose just visible at the rear of the train. The C420's were not equipped with head-end electrical power capability, necessitating the jury-rigged but attractive solution seen here. Judging from the foliage it's a crisp October morning and the sun is still low in the sky as the train is about to duck under Southwoods Road in Syosset, LI as I cross on my way to Senior classes at Syosset High School.
