Nickel Plate 759 has arrived in the town of Callicoon, NY along the Delaware River for a service stop on the way from Hoboken, NJ to Binghamton NY. This was a two-day excursion: westbound via the ex-Erie Delaware Division over Starrucca Viaduct and return the next day via the old DL&W via Scranton and the Tunkhannock Viaduct. It was a trip to remember for this then-15-year-old.
According to Wikipedia, the 1970 census placed the population of Callicoon at 2,398. From this photo snapped from an elevated location with my Instamatic, it appears that a goodly portion of those folks have turned out on this fine summer Saturday afternoon to witness the brief passage of this notable machine.
