Fall Foliage Excursion
October is a great time for a train ride, and a peak time month for steam excursions, with leaf-peepers adding to the ridership of hard-core train fans. The Reading and Northern usually operates a number of such trains each year. Here we one such event on a beautiful Fall day in 2008. Since then, the 425 has been repainted into a more subdued deep blue scheme, but the little Pacific barks as loudly as ever.
Here she is seen charging upgrade out of Port Clinton, PA on her way to Jim Thorpe, the two six-axle diesel helpers just along for the ride at this point. It's a brisk, calm October morning in central Pennsylvania and her exhaust stands tall, stretching the length of the train.
