Not so for Baldwin RS12 1207 on the peddler freight across the way, which was a rare catch even then. The Baldwin Locomotive Works of Philadelphia was one of the mainstays of steam locomotive manufacturing, but the company has a tough time making the transition to the diesel era. 1207 was rolled off the production line in 1953 and just three years later, Baldwin ran up the white flag and got out of the business for good. 1207 and her CNJ sisters had less than two years of service left when this photo was taken.
