The "Money Shot"
Often a scenic or preservation railroad will have a single location that becomes well-known and somewhat emblematic of that line. Such is the case with the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad which features this trestle along the shore of Nehalem Bay near the town of Wheeler, OR. It's reached by scrambling down a steep embankment from the highway and then tip-toeing across a large swampy expanse to achieve this vantage point.
Here we see the unique 2-4-4-2 Skookum on its maiden fantrip run crossing the trestle. I will not likely be able to repeat this shot as the Skookum was subsequently moved via highway flatbed to California where it will reside for the indefinite future.
