End of an Era

"This is one of the last two 89-ft TOFC cars still in TOFC service. I’ve been tracing the two as I wanted to get a last pic for posterity. This had arrived in Cicero on Saturday from Seattle, so I asked an operations manager there to get a pic. Amazing to think that a 49-yr old car with two million+ miles on it is still running on premium trains. The other car is aging out on June 1 and this car is one year or one Rule 1 home shop away from its last trailer load. The cars were marked up for removal from service long ago for life extension and conversion to another service but, as you know, the railroads are reluctant to switch out intermodal cars so we often have to wait until they get home shopped."
Thanks John, for capturing a little piece of intermodal history!
