Just a Couple of Glitches
Things were a bit off-kilter on the Port Jefferson branch of the LIRR on this early March morning in 1972. First, there must have been a problem with the FA power/cab unit leading to C420 211 being placed on the point instead of the customary position at the rear of the train. Now she will have to make a run-around move in Port Jeff. Secondly, the train is running left-hand for some reason I don't recall.
The characteristic exhaust cloud emitting from the 211 indicates that the train is still accelerating out of the Syosset station. The engineer will very shortly shut down as the train has just entered the rather significant downgrade that extends from this location by the Syosset High School all the way to the next stop in Cold Spring Harbor.
