Taking the Weekend Off
Saturday afternoons are quiet times at the Oyster Bay, Long Island yard. Located on the island's north shore at the end of the Long Island Railroad's Oyster Bay branch, the town's main claim to fame is Sagamore Hill, Teddy Roosevelt's home, now a National Park. TR often boarded the train at the still-standing Oyster Bay depot, currently undergoing restoration by the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum. Another long-term project of the group is the return to operating condition of LIRR G5 4-6-0 #31, which was on park display nearby for many years.
