Back in 1977 if you stood at the western end of the platform in Penn Station, NY, the view looked like this. On this particular day, the nose of the United Aircraft TurboTrain is prominent, with a GG1 adjacent and a Jersey Arrow trainset at far left, all three on stub-end storage tracks. At far right a southbound train slips into the entry to the Hudson Tubes also behind a GG1. You can barely see the beginning of the vertical curve down under the Hudson if you look carefully to the left of the silver signal box.
Today sunlight never reaches this area as it has been covered over by the Hudson Yards west side development project.
