Far off the Main
Although Union Pacific was known for its massive articulated locomotives, the far flung system also encompassed many remote branch lines. Seen in this shot from February 2007 is a perfect reincarnation of a typical UP branchline freight, from head end to tail.
Ironically, this line, today's Heber Valley in Utah, was a Rio Grande line back in the day that say the very biggest mountain-mauling power that the railroad had on the roster.
