Business has been good this summer on the Durango & Silverton and on many days a fourth train has been needed to accommodate all who want to ride. The tradition-minded railroad handles the problem by running a "second section", which is a second train running a few minutes behind a normally scheduled one. Line-side railroad personnel are alerted to the second section by green flags mounted on the scheduled train's locomotive. Here D&S 473 is flying green flags as she passes by. Indeed, no sooner did her exhaust begin to fade away up the valley when the melodious chime whistle from sister 486 could be heard as she approached with the second section.
