Safely in the Hole
Our photo charter was tucked away "in the hole", i.e. on the siding, at Willaha well before the regular scheduled Grand Canyon Railroad daily train to the rim of the canyon made its appearance. The train is making track speed behind a matched FPA-4-FB4 set of Alco diesels, air horn blaring and the lead unit smoking it up a bit as the train crests a rise, its nose reflecting in the shiny flank of #29's tender.
After the "varnish" speeds by and quiet returns, steamers 29 and 4501 will emerge back onto the main for additional runby's as the sun sets.
