Passing the Yard Limit
Southern #630 and #4501 are about to enter the yard at the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Grand Junction facility in Chattanooga as denoted by the yard limit sign. Once inside the yard, different operating rules apply than when out on the main. The indicator at left for the track turnout displays green, telling the engineer that the turnout is lined for the straight route. Were it to be set for the diverging route (the track to our left), the indicator would be turned 90 degrees and the other blade (edge-on in this photo) would display a yellow indication to the engineer and red on the side facing us, to tell us that the switch is closed.
