From the Observation Deck
One of the casualties of today's age of security has been the airport observation deck. Back in the day, it was a great excursion to take a trip to the airport to watch the action, even if air travel itself was out of reach financially speaking.
In this wonderful view taken by my father, Kurt Gross from the LaGuardia Airport observation deck in 1951, we see the latest in commercial aviation at work.
At center is a United DC-7 "MainLiner" unloading passengers, while two of the triple-tailed Lockheed Constellations can be seen at far right.
My Dad was just 28 years old and yours truly was 3 years in the future.
